The Nordic Rheuma Council (Nordiskt reumaråd in Swedish, abbreviated NRR) is an organization for co-operation between the associations for people with arthritis /rheumatism in the Nordic countries. It was founded in 1989. The council has six member organizations, one from Denmark, Finland, The Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Sweden respectively. The total number of individual members is around one quarter of a million.

The aims of the NRR are to

  • find opportunities for co-operation in areas of treatment and rehabilitation in order to improve the living conditions for people with arthritis/rheumatism


  • spread information about rheumatic diseases


  • work to increase resources for education and scientific research on rheumatic diseases


  • improve co-operation in this sector between twin cities and towns in the Nordic countries


  • establish and maintain contacts with Nordic governments and authorities and with other relevant Nordic organizations


  • increase the influence of the NRR and of the Nordic rheumatic patient societies on the Nordic, European and international level

Norway has the chairmanship through the years 2011-2013. NRR is chaired by Svein Dåvøy, the Chairman of The Norwegian League against Rheumatism. – Anne Carlsson, the chairman of The Swedish Rheumatism Association, is vice president.
